Peek-a-BOODURIAN!!
YEPPO! Its the wonderful and aromatic durian season again!!!!!! (benzene... electrophilic substitution... zzz...) OK I really mean that aromatic, as in very very xiang. LOL Although the season has started like abt a month ago but no harm giving everyone help in choosing the king of fruits right?
Look
Check that the tip of the stem looks young and white inside. Overnight durians - the ones that have not been picked that very morning - have stems that are hard, wrinkled and brown.
Feel
The prickles must be very stiff and sharp. Stale durians have prickles that are blunt and slightly tender. Also, make sure that the durian feels light. A heavy durian tends to be overripe.
Hear
Place your ear to the durian and shake it. You should be able to hear the seeds shake, as it means that the fruit is ripe.
Smell
From the tail-end of the durian, trace the 'seam' where teo segments meet. Smel along this 'seam'. The durian scent should not be too overpowering as it means that the durian is overripe. IT SHOULD EMERGE SLOWLT YET SURELY
*the above information is adapted from our trusted brand of newspaper :)
Too bad for people who really really hates the king of fruit beause you guys are stuck with the lower fruits and is practically losing out on a delicacy on Earth :(
