DSA 2006

OKOK!!! New entry to keep everyone's mind off disturbing stuff!!! I really really apologise if you guys had your intestines emptied :D

YAY! Its the time of the year whereby many of the Sec 4s who think they have a talent in something and wanna show off gets hyped up to try their luck at the Direct School Admission programme. I remembered how much work I put in to collect and certify all my stuff I have done in Nan Hua for the past 4 year. LOL I still remember how I felt when I received the thin letter from NJC :(

Quoted from MOE webbie:

" The Direct School Admission Exercise (DSA) aims to promote holistic education by giving participating schools greater flexibility in selecting students while holding to the key principles of transparency and meritocracy. For students, the DSA provides them the opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of student achievements and talents in seeking admission at the pre-university level. "

I say this is shit. REAL SHIT. Of course I didnt criticise the programme becaise I have been a victim of this programme before, but none of the participants knew how was the selection done, or in their terms, how was students being confirmed for Phase 2 of the DSA process. We submitted our portfolio to them ( and I still need to pay S$50 because it was NJC) and wat happens after that is a BIG question mark. Transparency my sai.

Worse, when I arrived at NJC last year to submit my portfolio stuff to the Admin folks in the General Office, I was still accused of giving them too much information and that I wasnt following their instructions on the form. !@#$%^&* So much for their Singapore Quality Class award eh?

I am jus quite puzzled by this whole process of searching for people with talents to aid their colleges in aesthetics ranking in Singapore. Of course they said about 'holding to the key principles of transparency and meritocracy' which meritocracy obviously refering to academic achievements of an individual but isnt one's achievement in their area of talent, when compared to the others, a form of meritocracy? I believe that not everything can be expressed in the form of certificates and things like that although this is how realistic the society is. However, there is a more cruel fact than the already very cruel fact, that is, they will always put your academic achievements as the first priority no matter how good talent may be.

Sec 4s who are trying out the system this year, please be aware of the disappointment you all may face and dont be too confident, seriously. Nobody said that if you entered nationals before, you definitely will get into the college through the f-up DSA programme. Its also good to keep thinking that you will not get in, so that you will be over the moon when you really get in. HAHA Anyone who needs advice on their portfolio can come find me during the hols!! :) I will be more than willing to make you suffer the same fate as me help!!!
